Being Well at Citizens Advice

Supporting Wellbeing Across Our Communities

The Being Well project has supported individuals and communities across Malvern Hills District to take control of their wellbeing and improve mental health through early intervention, prevention, and strong community connections.

The project is a collaboration between Age UK Wyvern and Citizens Advice South Worcestershire, funded by Malvern Hills District Council and Worcestershire Public Health.

Over three years, the project has focused on improving mental wellbeing through early intervention, community engagement, and accessible support. By working directly within local communities—without the need for referral or appointment—the team has helped people access support in a way that feels natural, informal, and stigma-free.

The project has centred around four key principles:

  • Early intervention – supporting people before issues reach crisis point
  • Prevention and resilience – encouraging self-care and wellbeing
  • Overcoming barriers – making support accessible to all
  • Community connectivity – strengthening local networks and partnerships

Through this approach, the Being Well team has:

  • Delivered hundreds of one-to-one conversations supporting individuals
  • Reached communities across all 73 towns and villages in the district
  • Distributed over 2,000 self-care booklets
  • Delivered wellbeing presentations and events to hundreds of residents
  • Strengthened links between local organisations and support services

The project has helped individuals feel more confident, less isolated, and better able to manage their own wellbeing. By focusing on prevention and empowering people with knowledge and support, Being Well has also helped reduce pressure on statutory services.

The true impact of Being Well lies in the connections made within the community. By meeting people where they are, listening, and offering practical and emotional support, the project has helped individuals find a way forward.

This work has created a lasting legacy—empowering people to take control of their wellbeing, strengthening community resilience, and building a more connected and supportive local network.
